Vulnerable
Vulnerable means a species faces a real risk of extinction, but there is still time to turn decline into recovery.
How to read this label
On the IUCN Red List, this label describes global extinction risk, not how common the species feels in any one place. For Vulnerable species, the warning has become measurable: decline, range pressure, or small population size is no longer just a future concern.
What the label can hide
The same label can describe different realities: a species spread thinly across damaged habitats, or one stronghold that is still viable but under growing pressure. GBIF occurrence data can show where a species has been documented, but it also reflects where people have looked.
What changes the trajectory
Targeted field work can still change the curve here: protect breeding and feeding areas, reduce direct losses, and keep populations connected.
